Cycling

There are many miles of former railway lines in the Peak Park which are flat and safe (and mostly car free) for family cycling (Manifold Track, Tissington Trail, Longdendale Trail, Sett Valley Trail and the High Peak Trail). Hamps Hall and Hamps barn are particularly well situated close to cycle trails.

 

As The Sunday Times said "The Tisssington Trail was a pioneer of traffic-free cycling in Britain, a fabulous 13 mile route from Ashbourne to Parsley Hay through some of the prettiest village scenery in the Peak District.  From Parsley Hay, you can cycle back the way you came, lingering over lunch at The Dog and Partridge, in Thorpe; or head southeast on the High Peak Trail, along a second track bed, for 11 miles to Middleton Top, returning the eight miles to Ashbourne along quiet country lanes.  You might see a car or two, but this is a 32 mile loop as the cycling gods intended."

 

There are also more challenging rides on the hills and dales. Should you wish to bring your bikes to a Party House, at most locations they can be locked away overnight.
